Tuesday, May 17, 2011 10:30 - 12:00 / 1:00 - 2:15
Dr. Subramaniam Ganesan |
Workshop on Advances in Embedded System
Subra Ganesan and ETAS engineer
This workshop will cover advances in embedded system design. An embedded system is a special-purpose computer system designed to perform one or a few dedicated functions, often with real-time computing constraints. We will cover advances in microcontrollers, FPGAs, networking requirement, design of embedded systems ranging from portable devices such as digital Personal Digital Assistance to large stationary installations like traffic lights, and factory controllers, Real time operating system lime micro Cos, scheduling tasks to meet deadlines, advanced DSP microprocessors, software tools to design DSP systems, i.MX 5x series Freescale micro, design of multimedia systems. Use of Matlab autocode generator, and LabView based FPGA code generator.
We will also cover use of ETAS software tools like ASCET, and INTECRIO tools for designing real time embedded systems, and embedded system validation and verification techniques. A discussion on the various embedded system education courses, syllabus, laboratory needs and challenges in upgrading to the latest technology.
Dr. Subramaniam Ganesan, is a Professor in the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Oakland University, Rochester, MI 48309, USA. He has over 25 years of teaching and research experience in Digital systems. He was the chair of the CSE department from1991 to 98. He moved to ECE department in 2008. He received Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India. He worked at National Aeronautical Laboratory, India, Ruhr University, Germany, Concordia University, Canada, and Western Michigan University before joining at Oakland University. He has published over 50 journal papers, 150 papers in conference proceedings, and 3 books. Ten students have obtained PhD under his guidance and 8 students are currently doing PhD. He published a book on Java in 2003. He developed a custom DSP board with software for his DSP book. He is a senior member of IEEE, IEEE Computer Society Distinguished Visiting Speaker, and council member of ISPE. He organized international conferences on Concurrent Engineering, a workshop on Xilinx DSP, IEEE EIT conference, ICSIT, and Embedded System workshops at Oakland University. His expertise include design of real time systems using FreeScale and ARM microcontrollers, multi-core processors, DSP processors, Altera, Xilinx FPGAs and media processors.
