LOTFI A. ZADEH is a Professor in the Graduate School, Computer Science Division, Department of EECS, University of California, Berkeley. In addition, he is serving as the Director of BISC (Berkeley Initiative in Soft Computing).
Lotfi Zadeh is an alumnus of the University of Tehran, MIT and Columbia University. He held visiting appointments at the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton, NJ; MIT, Cambridge, MA; IBM Research Laboratory, San Jose, CA; AI Center, SRI International, Menlo Park, CA; and the Center for the Study of Language and Information, Stanford University. His earlier work was concerned in the main with systems analysis, decision analysis and information systems. His current research is focused on fuzzy logic, computing with words and soft computing, which is a coalition of fuzzy logic, neurocomputing, evolutionary computing, probabilistic computing and parts of machine learning.
Lotfi Zadeh is a Fellow of the IEEE, AAAS, ACM, AAAI, and IFSA. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and a Foreign Member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, the Finnish Academy of Sciences, the Polish Academy of Sciences, Korean Academy of Science & Technology and the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. He is a recipient of the IEEE Education Medal, the IEEE Richard W. Hamming Medal, the IEEE Medal of Honor, the ASME Rufus Oldenburger Medal, the B. Bolzano Medal of the Czech Academy of Sciences, the Kampe de Feriet Medal, the AACC Richard E. Bellman Control Heritage Award, the Grigore Moisil Prize, the Honda Prize, the Okawa Prize, the AIM Information Science Award, the IEEE-SMC J. P. Wohl Career Achievement Award, the SOFT Scientific Contribution Memorial Award of the Japan Society for Fuzzy Theory, the IEEE Millennium Medal, the ACM 2001 Allen Newell Award, the Norbert Wiener Award of the IEEE Systems, Man and Cybernetics Society, Civitate Honoris Causa by Budapest Tech (BT) Polytechnical Institution, Budapest, Hungary, the V. He has published extensively on a wide variety of subjects relating to the conception, design and analysis of information/intelligent systems, and is serving on the editorial boards of over sixty journals.

Applications and Diagnosis of
Hojjat Adeli has been advancing a multi-paradigm approach for development of intelligent systems and solution of complicated and intractable dynamic pattern recognition problems. A novel wavelet-chaos-neural network methodology is presented for signal processing of brain waves as recorded by EEGs with the goal of automatic detection of brain abnormalities. Certain combinations of parameters from the EEG sub-bands were discovered to be effective markers for seizure detection and epilepsy diagnosis. The model can distinguish among healthy, interictal, and ictal EEGs with a high accuracy of more than 96%. Extension of this research for early diagnosis of Alzheimerís disease is also discussed.
Hojjat Adeli is Professor in the Departments of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Geodetic Science, Biomedical Engineering, Biomedical Informatics, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, and Neuroscience and the Interdisciplinary Biophysics Graduate Program at The Ohio State University. He is also the holder of the Abba G. Liechtenstein Professorship. He is the founder and Editor-in-Chief of research journals: Computer-Aided Civil and Infrastructure Engineering, now in 22nd year of publication and Integrated Computer-Aided Engineering, now in 15th year of publication, and the Editor-in-Chief of International Journal of Neural Systems. He has authored 230 journal articles and 11 books including Machine Learning - Neural Networks, Genetic Algorithms, and Fuzzy Systems (Wiley, 1995) and Wavelets in Intelligent Transportation Systems (Wiley, 2005). In 1998 he received the Distinguished Scholar Award from The Ohio State University "in recognition of extraordinary accomplishment in research and scholarship." In 2005 he was elected Honorary Member, ASCE, "for wide-ranging, exceptional, and pioneering contributions to computing in civil engineering and extraordinary leadership in advancing the use of computing and information technologies in many engineering disciplines throughout the world.Ē

Professor Mohammad Shahidehpour is Carl Bodine Distinguished Professor and Chairman in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT). He is the author of 300 technical papers and four books on electric power systems planning, operation, and control. His books have been translated into several languages. Dr. Shahidehpour is the recipient of 2005 IEEE/PES Best Transactions Paper Award, 2004 IEEE/PSO Best Transactions Paper Award, Edison Electric Instituteís Outstanding Faculty Award, HKNís Outstanding Young Electrical Engineering Award, Sigma Xiís Outstanding Researcher Award, IITís Outstanding Faculty Award, and University of Michiganís Outstanding Teaching Award. He is the past president of National Electrical Engineering Honor Society, and serves as the Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Power Systems. Dr. Shahidehpour has been a consultant to the power industry for the last 25 years and his software products have been installed in energy control centers in major utility companies. He is an IEEE Distinguished Lecturer, has lectured in 20 countries across the globe on electricity restructuring issues, and has been a visiting professor at several universities. He is a Fellow of IEEE.

Mr. Tom Walczak received his B.S. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee in 1980. He is currently Fellow of the Technical Staff and Senior Director of the Radio Systems Group in Motorola Mobile Devices Business. Since joining Motorola in 1981 he has developed cellular telephone products and technology. In his present position he is responsible for handset antenna technology development and measurement, 3G and 4G radio systems technology and standards development, and simulation technology. He has 27 issued patents, is a member of Motorolaís Science Advisory Board Associates and a Motorola Dan Noble Fellow.
