The Evolving Bioinformatic Needs of Health Care Organizations
Recent advances in genetic technology have enhanced our
understanding of basic biological processes at an astonishing rate.
These technological advances are ready for implementation in clinical settings
that have not traditionally participated in basic research. The impact of these
technologies will be enormous in both improving the care of patients and in furthering
our understanding of basic biological processes. However, an inability to manage data
on large numbers of patients is making it impossible to take advantage of these new technologies.
These shortcomings impede all aspects of studying a patient population to improve the
delivery of health care. These issues will be highlighted and future plans involving
bioinformatics in health care will be discussed.
